Light | Night
2012
A site specific public dance performance event held at the University of Texas in Austin designed to bring awareness to the need for bike lights when riding at night. The concept, developed by students in the university’s School of Fine Arts, involved holding the installation art event immediately following the end of daylight saving time when the darkness comes earlier than expected. Partnering with the university’s department of Theater and Dance, the proposal was brought to life: students and faculty wrote, choreographed, and created costume designs for the performance. Light | Night, the bike light dance project celebrating the changing light, was held on November 3rd 2012, where over 100 bike lights were distributed free of charge to cyclists in the community. Light | Night was the culminating event of the UT Safe Cycling Campaign.
